Indian Special Forces: Nightmare to enemies

History
The Indian special forces were born after world war 2 when the need of professionally trained soldiers was realized.Realizing the need of the hour, Indian special forces were introduced. 

Here are 9 Indian special forces every Indian should be proud of.

1)  MARCOS 

MARCOS (Marine Commandos) is India's most lethal special force.It is one of the special forces unit that was raised by the Indian Navy in 1987 for direct action, amphibious warfare and counter-terrorism.


These commandos are capable of firing while running, lying down, running backwards and looking into a mirror with a reaction time of 0.27 seconds.The training of MARCOS is the one of the most toughest training in the world.



2) Para Commandos
Para commandos are one of the most highly trained special forces of the Indian Army formed in 1966.Para commandos are the largest part of special forces of India.They are kept at optimum level of operational efficiency and physical fitness, only the most physically fit and intelligent soldiers are included in this force.


The main aim of para regiment is quick deployment of soldiers behind enemy lines to attack the enemy from behind and destroy their first line of defense.They played a special role in success of operations included the 1971 war with Pakistan, the Kargil war in 1999, operation Bluestar in 1984 and Surgical Strike in Pakistan on 29 Sept 2016 after Uri attack.



3) Garud Commando Force
Formed in 2004, the Garud Commando Force is one of the special forces unit of the Indian Air Force.The training for being a Garud is the longest amongst all the Indian Special Forces.The training for being a Garud Commando is so tough that it can take up to 3 years to qualify as a fully operational Garud.



Garud Commando Force is entrusted with the duty of protecting critical Air Force bases, counter insurgency training, jungle and snow survival techniques, specialized weapon handling and advanced driving skills.




4) COBRA

COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) is a specialized unit of the CRPF(Central Reserved Police Force) formed to counter Naxalism in India.It is the only Indian special force that is specifically trained in guerilla warfare to counter the Naxalism.




Since its establishment in 2008, it has successfully wiped out a number of Naxalite groups from India.Their sniper units are also one of the best among the armed forces of India.It is one of the best-equipped paramilitary forces in India.




5) Ghatak Force

Ghatak (means "killer") force is infantry platoon which only focuses in killing enemies, specialized in raids on enemy artillery positions,airfields and tactical headquarters.Every infantry battalion in the Indian Army has one platoon and only the most physically and mentally fit soldiers make it to the Ghatak platoon.



The Ghatak soldiers are well-trained, heavily-armed and trained to tackle situations like terror attacks, hostage situations and counter operations.Since they face the enemy face-to-face, they are trained to be challenged at mountain warfare, mountain climbing, advanced war training and closed combat battles.




6) National Security Guard

National Security Guard also known as Black Cat Commandos were introduced in 1986.Comprising of two units- the Special Action Group (SAG),which consists entirely of Indian Army personnel and the Special Ranger Groups (SRG) for counter terrorism activities.The NSG is equipped with some of the most advanced weapons in the world.





The selection process is so tough that it has a rejection rate of 70-80 percent.Those who qualify to become Black Cat Commandos are sent for another 9 months to become Phantom NSG Commandos.





7) Force One

Force One was introduced by Maharashtra Government after deadly 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai.Maharashtra Govt. brought the best commandos together and established the youngest Indian special force for counter-terrorist attacks.



This special force is capable of responding any terrorist attack in just 15 minutes.Initially the selected soldiers were trained in the guidance of Israeli Special Forces.




8) Special Frontier Force

The Special Frontier Force(SFF) was established in 14th Nov 1962.It is a paramilitary 
special force which specializes in direct action,hostage rescue and counter-terrorism operations.  



This paramilitary special force operates under India's external intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) and reports directly to the Prime Minister.





9) Special Protection Group

The Special Protection Group is a security force of the Government of India that is responsible for the protection of Prime Minister of India, the former Prime Ministers and their family members.



They have to gather intelligence and provide protection.It was formed in 1988 by an act of the Parliament of India.




These 9 Special Forces of India are no less than a nightmare to the enemies.

India's Paramilitary Forces

#   There are 7 Central Armed Police Forces in India. #   Each of These Forces Performs a separate function. #   They come under the ministry of Home Affairs. #   Each of the forces is lead by an IPS officer (Except Assam Rifles).
