India's Paramilitary Forces



#  There are 7 Central Armed Police Forces in India.
#  Each of These Forces Performs a separate function.
#  They come under the ministry of Home Affairs.
#  Each of the forces is lead by an IPS officer (Except Assam Rifles).

Here are the seven Paramilitary Forces -

1. ASSAM RIFLES (AR)
  • It is the oldest Central Paramilitary Force in India.
  • It plays a crucial role to counter North-East insurgency.
  • They also guard the Indo-Myanmar border.
2. BORDER SECURITY FORCE (BSF)
  • They came into existence in 1965.
  • They guard the borders along with the army in certain places.
  • BSF also guard the borders along with the army in Jammu & Kashmir.


3. CENTRAL INDUSTRIAL SECURITY FORCE (CISF)
  • They came into existence in 1969.
  • CISF provide security to public sector undertakings.
  • They are also seen guarding our Airports.


4. CENTRAL RESERVE POLICE FORCE (CRPF)
  • Established in 1939 for internal security purposes.
  • They are deployed in areas with internal security threat like Chhattisgarh.
  • They are also seen controlling riots.


5. INDO TIBETAN BORDER POLICE (ITBP)
  • ITBP was established in 1962.
  • They guard the areas along the mountainous regions of Indo-Tibet border.
  • They also guard the mountainous regions of the Indo-China border.


6. NATIONAL SECURITY GUARD (NSG)
  • NSG was set up in 1984 to tackle terrorism.
  • They are specially equipped & trained to deal with exceptional situations.
  • They also played a crutial role in dealing with the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attacks.

SASHASTRA SEEMA BAL (SSB)
  • SSB was established in 1963.
  • They guard the Indo-Nepal & Indo-Bhutan borders.
  • They are also seen guarding polling booths during elections.

Brahmos: Supersonic Cruise Missile

MEANING The name  BRAHMOS is a joint name comprised of "Brahmaputra"(Indian river) and "Moskva"(Russian river) developed by both India and Russia. STAGES   Brahmos Missile is a 2 level supersonic cruise missile with a strong  propellant booster engine as its first level which provides it the supersonic speed and separates after that.The liquid ramjet on other level takes the missile closer to speed of 2.8 to 3 Mach in cruise phase. FEATURES The Brahmos missile has a flight range upto 290 km with a max supersonic speed of 3Mach and can carry conventional warheads weighing upto 200 to 300 kg.
